Black Diamond Revolt Headlamp In Long Term Review

In search of a new and above all light headlamp, I came across the Revolt headlamp from Black Diamond and have been using it for almost a year. In this test I would like to share my experiences and impressions with you with the compact headlamp.    It has been used for night walks, camping and of course fishing.

First impression

First of all, the very low weight of the lamp is noticeable, so it weighs only 97 grams including the three AAA batteries supplied.    The workmanship makes a valuable impression, even if I would have wished that the battery compartment is a little easier to open. The lamp can be easily adjusted vertically and seems to have only one button to turn it on (which turned out to be wrong, it has two buttons to operate).

The supplied rechargeable batteries can be easily replaced with any batteries of the same size. Good for emergencies, in case you forgot to recharge.

It took me some time to learn how to use the device and to know all the functions, and for that I actually had to look into the manual. But it is very easy to understand and after 1-2 operations I was able to switch through all modes quickly and intuitively. The buttons have a very nice pressure point and react reliably.

What’s really nice is that the lamp remembers how bright you have set it and that it can be easily dimmed continuously. If you need maximum light, this is always possible immediately with a touch button on the side of the lamp.

You can switch to red light mode by pressing the touch button on the switched off lamp for 2 seconds. This could be a little easier in my opinion.

In practice -Test report

Now for the important part – the practical part I had the head lamp with me for almost a year on various night fishing trips. So it was also exposed to rain and a lot of moisture, but it didn’t hurt it.    Due to its light weight it is comfortable to wear for a long time. Sometimes I even forgot that I was wearing it and just kept it on in the car after the fishing trip.

The battery life is good and lasts for 2-3 days or nights, even if used a lot.    When I have used the lamp only a little it has been five nights. The indicated maximum burning time of 180h is certainly not under full load.

There are a few things that bothered me: Just for fishing I find the light cone a bit too wide and the

red light too weak. But both are ideal for camping, hiking and outdoor activities. Without getting night-blind, I can adjust the lamp so that everything in front of me is illuminated as weakly as I need it.    If I want to have a closer look, I am immediately at maximum brightness with the perfectly reacting touch button on the side and just as quickly back in my set mode. I really enjoyed that.

Charging takes a little longer with the USB and I prefer to charge my batteries in a special charger. Nevertheless, on tours lasting several days the function was already practical, because I could simply connect the headlamp to my powerbank. The Micro USB cable is also universal and even if one is included, almost everybody has some at home. Replacement would always be easy to get.

A high quality headlamp, but it could have a slightly stronger red light and a narrower cone. Otherwise I am very satisfied with the lamp. You can clearly see from the cone that the lamp is mainly designed for hiking and other outdoor activities. The wearing comfort as well as the usability are top.
